The 2024 CCEDA Policy Conference centers our focus on increasing equity, and access to resources, in low-income communities and communities of color. The theme, Access and Equity for a New California: Empowering Low-Income Communities of Color, encourages attendees to consider how elected representatives, financial institutions, and CED organizations can use the tools and infrastructure of CED to accomplish this urgent goal. CDCs, CDFIs, and CAAs have served as effective tools to address the needs of low-income communities, especially those whose leadership reflects the communities they serve. In light of the historic investments made by Biden Administration through the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, as well as state funding efforts, California is in a position to lead the nation in creating an equitable landscape for low-income communities of color, and increasing access to much needed resources such as affordable housing, renewable technology, small business assistance, etc. As the state pushes forward in addressing climate change, the housing crisis, transportation expansion, etc., it is vital that these efforts prioritize the communities most affected by these issues; low-income communities of color. We cannot afford to allow these communities to be left behind as they have in the past. It is up to community based organizations, funders, financial institutions, and elected officials to work together and assure that low-income communities of color are a primary beneficiary of state’s efforts.
The 2024 CCEDA Policy Conference provides the space to do that work, strengthen networks, harness funding opportunities, and cohere a vision for a new California.
